Named CAC Athletes of the Week
Curtis Christopher-Anderson (Brookings, SD/Brookings), Kareem
Falcon (Severna, MD/Chesapeake), Corey O’Neil (Export,
PA/Franklin Regional), Ali Goetz (Fallston, MD/Fallston),
Sarah Pernick (Columbia, MD/River Hill) and Natalie
Williams (Baltimore, MD/Mount de Sales Academy) were named CAC Athletes
of the Week for the week of April 19-25, 2004.
Curtis Christopher-Anderson, a senior catcher from Gallaudet University, earned
CAC baseball player of the week honors after he hit .684 (13-for-19) while tallying
10 runs, 10 RBI and three stolen bases in leading the Bison to its first winning
week of the season. In a game against Philadelphia Biblical University, Christopher-Anderson
nearly hit for the cycle, missing by only a home run.
Kareem Falcon, a junior leftfielder from Salisbury University, garnered CAC
softball player of the week honors after she went 3-for-7 in helping the Sea
Gulls sweep Virginia Wesleyan last week. Falcon went 2-for-3 with a run scored
in the first game and added a double and an RBI in the second game, raising
her season average to .370.
Corey O’Neil, a senior attacker from Salisbury University, won CAC men’s
lacrosse player of the week honors after he helped the Sea Gulls to their 10th
consecutive CAC championship. O’Neil scored six goals and added an assist
in the 21-4 title victory over St. Mary’s on Saturday. O’Neil also
added three goals in the semi-final victory over Goucher earlier in the week.
Ali Goetz, a sophomore goaltender from Salisbury University, earned CAC women’s
lacrosse player of the week honors after she backstopped the Sea Gulls to their
second consecutive CAC championship and fourth title in five years. Goetz posted
nine saves against Mary Washington and ten saves against St. Mary’s and
allowed only eight goals in each game. Goetz ran her season record to 10-2 as
she allowed only 5.97 goals per game this season.
Sarah Pernick, a freshman women’s tennis player from St. Mary’s
College, earned CAC women’s tennis player of the week honors after she
helped lead the Seahawks to an 8-1 victory over the College of Notre Dame by
winning the #4 singles, 6-0, 6-0. She then partnered with teammate Gretchen
White to win the #3 doubles match, 8-1. In her first season as a collegiate
player, Pernick finished the season with an overall record of 7-2 in doubles
play and 7-3 in singles play.
Natalie Williams, a senior thrower from Goucher College, earned CAC women’s
track and field athlete of the week after she placed first in the shot put competition
at the Dickinson Spring Classic with her top effort of the 2004 outdoor season,
38’ 10 1/4”. Williams is also the 2004 CAC Champion in the hammer
throw.
