Named CAC Athletes of the Week
Robbie Wright (Chesapeake, VA/Indian River), Jessy
Simon (Feasterville, PA/Villa Joseph Marie), Corey O’Neil
(Export, PA/Franklin Regional), Ashley Snyder (Millington,
MD/Queen Anne’s County), Andrew Danos (Lumberton, TX/Lumberton),
Erika Mitry (Summit, NJ/Summit), Jason Hough (Stafford,
VA/Brooke Point) and Jana White (Crisfield, MD/ Washington)
were named Capital Athletic Conference Athletes of the Week for their performance
during the week of March 29-April 4, 2004.
Wright, a senior catcher from Mary Washington, went 6-11 with seven RBI on the
week to earn CAC baseball player of the week honors. Wright helped pace the
Eagles to three consecutive CAC victories to move into first place in the conference.
Wright went 2-for-4 with two RBI in Wednesday’s win over York and 3-for-4
with two singles, a bases clearing double, and five RBI in Saturday’s
contest win over YCP.
Simon, a freshman pitcher from Mary Washington, earned CAC softball player of
the week honors by helping the Eagles win 3 of 4, including both her starts
last week. Simon defeated Shenandoah University 13-2 by tossing a seven-hitter.
She then topped Salisbury on Sunday by a 4-2 margin, allowing two hits in six
innings, with four walks and four strikeouts. She is 5-3 with a 4.78 ERA for
the season.
O’Neil, a senior attacker from Salisbury, earned CAC men’s lacrosse
player of the week honors after finishing the week with seven goals to help
the #1 ranked Sea Gulls remain undefeated on the year at 11-0. O’Neil
notched three goals in the 27-7 win over York and then added four more in the
12-6 win over #5 Gettysburg.
Snyder, a junior attack wing from Goucher, won the CAC women’s lacrosse
player of the week award after scoring a career-high seven goals, including
the 100th of her collegiate career. Ashley also added six ground balls, three
draw controls and caused one turnover vs. Randolph-Macon.
Danos, a freshman men’s tennis player from Goucher, was named CAC men’s
tennis player of the week after he went 2-0 in singles play, giving him a team-high
17 singles wins on the campaign. Danos combined with teammate David Sands to
go 2-0 in doubles play as well, making them 15-5, a mark which moved them into
first place all-time for doubles wins in Goucher College history. Danos is 7-3
in #1 singles play and 6-0 in #2 singles play for the spring season.
Mitry, a freshman women’s tennis player from Salisbury, won CAC women’s
tennis player of the week honors after she helped the Sea Gulls to a 5-4 win
over Mary Washington. Mitry was part of the victorious #1 doubles team and a
winner in #3 singles as well.
Hough, a senior runner from Mary Washington College, earned CAC men’s
track and field athlete of the week honors after he broke his own outdoor school
record in the 1500 meters, crossing the line in just 4:00.29.
White, a sophomore runner from Goucher College, earned CAC women’s track
and field athlete of the week after she shattered two school records in two
events. White ran the 200-meter dash in just :26.94 and the 400-meter run in
just 1:01.54. White was also on Goucher’s 4 x 400-meter relay that finished
first and set a new school record with its time of 4:21.24 and placed third
in the long jump with a distance of 15’ 3.25”.
