goals in the win to pace the Gulls. Salisbury, which ran its nation’s
longest unbeaten streak to 25 games, dating back to last season,
outshot the Shoremen 51-27 and posted 32 more ground balls than
Washington. Dan Korpon, who entered the game with
the lowest goals against average in Division III, recorded 11 saves
in goal, including seven stops during the pivotal first quarter.
Junior Justin Smith added three goals while Andy Arnold,
Dan Boyer, Scott Simmons, Mike
Edwards, and Mike Hurley each scored twice.
Goucher’s Pat Tracy scored five goals and
Dan Flamholz picked up six assists as the Gophers put the wraps
on its 2004 campaign by unloading on Villa Julie, 19-4. Tracy finished
the season with a team-leading 48 goals, the second-highest single-season
total in the 13-year history of the school’s men’s lacrosse
program.
Men’s Lacrosse Notes for the Week (April
27): The defending national champion Salisbury University
Sea Gulls, the number one ranked team in the nation, won its tenth
straight CAC championship and a trip to next month’s NCAA
Championship tournament Saturday with a 21-4 win over St. Mary’s.
That came after an 11-5 victory over Goucher on Tuesday. In the
title game, senior attackman Corey O’Neil
and Andy Arnold combined for 10 goals to lead Sea
Gulls. O’Neil and Arnold each scored once in the opening quarter
as Salisbury jumped out to a 4-0 lead. The Gulls increased their
advantage to 9-3 at halftime. Consecutive markers by O’Neil,
Arnold, and senior Scott Simmons over the first
4:27 of the third quarter pushed the lead to 12-3. Salisbury finished
with a decided edge in most of the statistics, outshooting the Seahawks
64-19 and controlling 23 of 29 face-offs. Senior All-American
Andy Murray led the way by winning 16 of his 20 face-offs.
In the win over Goucher, O’Neil scored three goals while Arnold
and sophomore Dan Boyer added two goals and one
assist each. Mary Washington was ranked #20 last week in the weekly
USILA national poll, their first ever national ranking. St. Mary’s
won their sixth straight contest with the win at #20 Mary Washington
in the CAC semifinals. That streak came to a halt wit ha 21-4 loss
to #1 Salisbury in the finals. Up until the Salisbury contest, the
Seahawks had not allowed an opponent to score over seven goals in
their previous nine contests. Freshman goalkeeper Rich Barr
finished with an 8-2 record on the season as a starter, after making
his first-ever collegiate start in the regular season victory over
Marymount on March 24. The Seahawks have won 11 games for the first
time since the 2001 season when they went 11-5 overall. With his
22-save performance against Salisbury in the CAC semifinals, Goucher’s
Reeves Craig became the third goalkeeper in the history
of the school’s men’s lacrosse program to surpass 500
saves during his career. Catholic finished the 2004 season at 9-5,
breaking the school record for most wins in a season, a mark that
was set last year. Also, CUA accomplished another first, their first
ever regular-season CAC victory, an 11-3 win over York on March
13. Catholic added their second CAC win of the year on March 31
with a 9-6 win over Marymount. York College closed out their season
with a 21-5 victory over Cazenovia. Freshman Andrew Collins
established a new school record with 10 points on six goals and
four assists. Sophomore Josh Papsan established

he also collected 27 ground balls in the game. Papsan leads the
CAC in ground balls as he is averaging 14.67 ground balls per game.
Men’s Lacrosse Notes for the Week (April

the CAC quarterfinal win over York. It is the third straight year
that the Eagles have reached double figures in wins. Eagle senior
Chris Doddridge scored five goals and added two
assists in the Eagles win over YCP in the tournament. St. Mary’s
won both of their contests this past week and now have won five

on March 24. The Seahawks have won ten games for the first time
since the 2001 season when they went 11-5 overall. Goucher’s
man-down unit had an outstanding day in the Gophers’ 11-3
win over Wesley, keeping the Wolverines from scoring a single goal
on seven extra-man opportunities. Dan Flamholz
picked up assists on all four of Pat Tracy’s
goals in the Gophers’ 12-9 triumph over CUA in the opening
round of the CAC tournament. Flamholz now has 15 assists in the
last four games. Jerod Richardson won 16 of the
21 face offs he attempted against Catholic, and in the process,
broke the single season school record of 152 face offs won. The
freshman face-off specialist has won 161 of the 275 face-offs he
has attempted this season. Catholic, who is now 8-5 for the season,
have, with one game remaining, surpassed the most wins in school
history, a mark that was set last year. Though Marymont suffered
through a down year, they can take heart that 62 percent of their
scoring returns to the field next season along with all three of
their goalies.
Men’s Lacrosse Notes for the Week (April
13): Salisbury’s Andy Arnold and
Dan Boyer each scored three goals on Saturday as

the win. Goucher’s Dan Flamholz-to-Pat
Tracy connection clicked for three goals in Goucher’s

five assists in the game. Tracy leads the Gophers in goals (35)
and points (44) this season. St. Mary’s won both of their

consecutive one-goal win for the Seahawks against the Gophers and
the fourth consecutive one-goal game in the series. Junior midfielder
