Men’s Track Notes for the Week(May 4):
Mary Washington junior Matt Kirk finished first
in the 5,000 meters to pace the MWC squad at the Mason-Dixon Invitational
in Newport News, VA on Saturday. Kirk placed first with a time of
15:56. Colin Dwyer was second in the hammer throw,
tossing the hammer 167’ 11” and was also third in the
discus with a heave of 136’7”. Todd Kronenberg
was third in the 1,500 meters, at 4:00.39, just shy of the MWC school
record. Catholic junior Sean Duggan defended his
two titles this weekend’s Mason-Dixon Invitational. He broke
his own record set last season and was an NCAA provisional qualifier
in winning the hammer throw. He also broke a 21-year old meet record
in winning the shot put. Duggan will compete at the Division III
Outdoor Track and Field Championships on May 27-29. Salisbury’s
Kris Greenwell set a new school mark in the pole
vault when he cleared 15’. The effort was good enough for
a first-place finish in the event. Junior Brandon Fields
took top honors in the discus with a distance of 152’7.5”.
Men’s Track Notes for the Week (April
27): Catholic’s Sean Duggan finished
second in the men’s eastern shot put at this weekend’s
Penn Relays. Salisbury’s 4x100 squad of Josh Payton,
Rivers Johnson, Brian Deleon,
and Marcus Tines registered their second-fastest
time of the year with a 43.93 to finish fourth in their heat. The
men’s 4x400 team of Enos Benbow, Daryl
Lee, Tines, and Tristan Gilbert also finished
fourth in their heat with a time of 3:26.96, just one second behind
last week’s winning time posted in the CAC Championship meet.

Men’s Track Notes for the Week (April
13): At the University of Delaware Invitational, Salisbury’s
Brandon Field placed third in the discus (43.01 m) and
the hammer (39.87 m) while Tim Robinson placed third in the javelin
(53.50 m). Kris Greenwell placed second in the
pole vault (4.37 m) and Justin Johnson came in
third in the 400 meter hurdles (55.48). Joe Flores placed third
in the 300 steeplechase (10:38.31) while Tristan Gilbert
picked up a third place finish in the 800 meters (1:56.44). At the
Lynchburg Invitational, Mary Washington’s Dustin Yudowitch
was sixth in the 800 meters at 1:55.66. Todd Kroenberg
and Jason Hough placed ninth and tenth in the event.
At the Lebanon Valley Invitational, York received a pair of first
place finishes in the event as R.J. Curran won
the men’s triple jump and Mike Simone earned
a first in the discus. Curran’s leap was 38’5”,
almost a full foot ahead of the second place finisher. Simone tossed
the discus 121’2” to easily outdistance the runner up
by over four feet.
Men’s Track Notes for the Week (April
6): At the Duke University Invitational, Jason Hough of
MWC broke his own outdoor school record in the 1,500 meters, finishing
with a time of 4:00.29. Hough was followed closely by teammate
Todd Kronenberg at 4:00.60. Jake Rod ran the 3000 steeplechase
in 9:56, and Matt Kirk ran the 5,000 meters in
32:17.39. In the field events, Colin Dwyer threw
the hammer 163’11”, and Franz Wesner
threw the javelin 171’. At the Lebanon Valley Invitational,
Goucher’s 4x100 meter relay captured first place. Harrison
Tucker, who ran one of the legs of that race, was the runner-up
in both hurdle events, crossing the finish line in :17.94 in the
110 high hurdles and 1:01.24 in the 400. At the Lebanon Valley Invitational,
York received four second place finishes in the non-team scoring
meet. Burt Schaeffer finished second in the 800
meter run, notching a time of 2:03.9. Erik Bowersox was
the runner-up in the 1,500 meter run, clocking in with a time of
4:27.6. Sophomore Mike Lentricchia placed second
in the 5,000 meter run as he notched a time of 16:51.0. The final
second place finish for YCP came from Kevin Laughman
in the 3,000 meter steeplechase. Salisbury junior Tim Robinson
set a new school record in the javelin Saturday with a throw of
186’2.25” at the Richard Stockton Invitational. Robinson
also placed third at the event. Freshman Chris Colangelo
finished third in the javelin with a heave of 158’8”.
Three Sea Gulls earned first place finishes in the event as Kris
Greenwell won the pole vault (14’0”), Tristan Gilbert
won the men’s 800 (1:55.56), and Justin Johnson
was victorious in the 400 hurdles (:54.94).
Men’s Track Notes for the Week (March
30): Catholic’s Sean Duggan took
first place in the shot put, second in the hammer throw, and fifth
in the discus at the Battleground Relays hosted by Mary Washington.
Senior Mike Audette chipped in with a second place
finish in the 10,000 meter race and a third place in the 5,000 meter
race. Mary Washington’s Matt Kirk won the
5,000 meters while the men’s distance medley relay won a thrilling
race at the wire and the men’s 4x800 relay earned a win with
a time of 7:48.20. At the Georgia Tech Classic, Salisbury junior
Tim Robinson won the javelin with a throw of 177’8”.
Robinson registered Salisbury’s only event win and one of
14 scoring performances (top 8) for the Gulls. Other highlights
for the Sea Gull men included a second-place finish by freshman
Kris Greenwell in the pole vault (12’11/25”).
Senior Justin Johnson added two scoring finishes,
placing third in the 110 hurdles and fifth in the 400 hurdles.
Men’s Track Notes for the Week (March
23): York earned the team victory at the Goucher College
Invitational despite winning just one individual event. The Spartans
received top performances by Mike Lentricchia (2nd
in 5000 meters), Kevin Laughman (3rd in 5000 meters),
R.J. Curran (3rd in high jump), Phil DeGaetano
(3rd in pole vault), Ethan Armes (1st in triple
jump & 4th in 400 meter hurdles), Mike Borrell (3rd
in hammer), and Dennis Loosen (3rd in javelin).
Catholic’s senior Mike Audette, junior Sean
Duggan, and sophomore John Lynch highlighted
CUA’s fourth-place finish at the Goucher College Invitational.
Audette finished first in the 5000 meter run and seventh in the
1500 meter run. Duggan, fresh off his outstanding performance at
last week’s NCAA Indoor Championships, won both the shot put
and hammer throw while Lynch was first in the 10,000 meter run.
Goucher’s Robin Fernald finished first in
one event and second in another at the Goucher Invitational. The
junior’s first-place performance was in the pole vault competition,
which he won by successfully clearing 11’ 5.75”. He
was the runner-up in the javelin (151’2”). MWC’s
Matt Kirk ran the 5000 meters in 15:22, with Todd
Kronenberg close behind at 15:24. Jason Call ran
the steeplechase at 10:06, followed closely by Doug Axelrod,
at 10:07. Dustin Yudowitch ran the 1500 meters
in 4:06, and Colin Dwyer finished third in both
the hammer throw (161’0”) and the discus (138’0”).
Men’s Track Notes for the Week (March
15): Goucher’s Harrison Tucker won
both hurdle events and placed second in the high jump competition
at the Goucher Warm-Up meet. The freshman’s winning times
were :19.20 in the 110-meter hurdles and 1:04.65 in the 400. He
also cleared 5-6 in the high jump to establish a new outdoor school
record and finish runner-up to York’s Rob Curran.
Mary Washington’s Matt Kirk took first place in the 10,000
meters, finishing with a time of 32:52. Colin Dwyer
won the discus with a throw of 145’6”. York’s
Dennis Loosen had a strong meet at the Goucher
Warm-Up meet as he won the javelin, finished second in the hammer,
and placed third in the shot put.
Men’s Track Notes for the Week (March
8): Salisbury had five first place finishes at their season-opening
Salisbury University Invite. Will Murdoch won the
steeplechase in 10:23.9; Brandon Fields won the
hammer with a throw of 134’0”; Marcus Tines
was victorious in the 100-meters in a time of :10.9; Justin
Johnson captured the victory in the 400-hurdles, crossing
the line in a time of :57.4 while Kris Greenwell
was the best in the pole vault, clearing a height of 14”0”.
In addition to the first place finishes, Rivers Johnson
and Justin Johnson finished 1-2 in the high hurdles as both were
timed at 15.4 seconds.
