Women’s Track Notes for the Week (May
4): Mary Washington’s Julia Rothlisberger
won the 800 meters at the Mason-Dixon Invitational, finishing
with a time of 2:21. Carissa Culbreath was second
in the discus (123’ 4”), fifth in the hammer (119’
2.5”), and fifth in the shot put (36’ 8.25”).
Emily Edelman finished third in the pole vaul (9’6”)
and Amy Kingsbury placed fourth in the same event
with a vault of nine feet. Nicole Maier was second
in the 400 meters, at 59.79, and the women’s 4x400 relay was
second with a season-best time of 4:03.52. The relay consisted of
Rothlisberger, Maier, Jen Lopatin, and Leanne
Shannon. Goucher’s Natalie Williams
successfully defended her title in the women’s hammer throw
competition at the George Mason Patriot Open by outperforming 11
Division I athletes. Williams won the event with a throw of 158’9”.
Salisbury junior Melissa Lewis placed third overall
in the hammer throw and set a new school record with a distance
of 128’ as she helped Salisbury score 107 points. Lewis also
won the javelin with a throw of 107’9”. Also setting
a new school mark was the Sea Gull 4x400 relay team which posted
a time of 4:07.88. The time was good enough for third place in the
event.
Women’s Track Notes for the Week (April
27): Catholic sophomore Laura Kaye took
first in the 400 meter hurdles and Mary McGlynn
earned a third-place finish in the 1,500 meter run and a fifth-place
finish in the 800-meter run at the Bridgewater Invitational. Freshman
Cara Notarfrancesco placed third in the javelin
throw. Goucher’s Natalie Williams won the
shot put competition at Saturday’s Dickinson Spring Classic.
The senior placed first in the event with her top performance of
the 2004 outdoor season: 38’ 10.25”. At the Penn Relays,
Salisbury University registered three of its fastest relay times
of the 2004 season. The women’s 4x400 squad of Ruth
Hedrick, Maria Karagiannis, Jamie
Resinger, and Tori Peddicord shaved six
seconds off their previous best time by registering a 4:09.61 finish.
Mary Washington’s women’s track team sent its 4x400
relay team to the Penn Relays. The relay squad, composed of Jen
Lopatin, Julia Rothlisberger,
Leanne Shannon, and Nicole Maier, ran
its season best time of 4:04.26.

Women’s Track Notes for
the Week (April 13): At the University
of Delaware Invitational, Salisbury’s K.C. Gale placed second
in the shot (11.70 m) and fourth in the discus (33.92 m).
Johanna Strokeoff placed fourth in the long jump (4.86
m) and Stacy Hopkins finished fourth in the 3000
steeplechase (12:49.91). Jackie Fowler came in
fifth in the 5000 meters (22.47.59). At the Lebanon Valley Invitational
on Wednesday, York had four first place finishes in the meet.
Lindsey Ney earned the Spartans’ initial first place
finish as she won the 400 meter dash, recording a time of 1:05.7.
Jen Klaus was the next Spartan to pick up a victory
as she was first in the 1,500 meter run, finishing the race with
a time of 5:45.7. Sara Maurer was the third Spartan
to record a victory as she won the long jump with a leap of 15’6.25”.
Erin Yesser continued her domination of the javelin
as she won the event with a heave of 127’10”, a whopping
24’3” longer than the second place finisher in the event.
Yesser has now established a provisional qualifying throw for the
NCAA Division III national championships. At the Lynchburg Invitational,
Mary Washington’s Megan Linn finished first
in the discus wiht a throw of 36.9 meters. Linn placed fourth in
the hammer throw at 37.89 meters. In the triple jump, Jane
Thies was third with a leap of 10.66 meters. Nicole
Maier was fourth in the 400 meters, with a time of 1:00.39.
Julia Rothlisberger was second in the 800 meters, at 2:19.06.
Women’s Track Notes for
the Week (April 6): At the Duke Invitational,
MWC’s Sam Workman ran the 200 meters in 26.81 seconds and
Caitlin Kinkead ran the 5000 meters in 19:46.
Julia Rothlinsberger ran the 1500 in 5:00.99 and Megan
Linn threw the hammer 110’10. At the Lebanon Valley Invitational,
Goucher’s Jana White captured first place
in two events, breaking school records with her winning times of
:26.94 in the 200 meter dash and 1:01.54 in the 400 meter run. She
was also on the Gophers’ 4x400 meter relay team that placed
first and set a new school record by crossing the finish line in
a converted time of 4:21.24. Other first place performances for
Goucher came from Margo Becker in the 1,500 meter
run and Natalie Williams in the hammer throw. York
received first place finishes at the Lebanon Valley Invitational
from Sara Maurer in the long jump and Erin
Yesser in the javelin. Maurer recorded a leap of 15’11.5”
while Yesser’s javelin toss was 104’03”. At the
Captain’s Classic in Newport News, VA, Salisbury received
second-place efforts from Ruth Hendrick in the
400 hurdles and Rebecca Lyons in the 3000 steeplechase.
Also performing well for Salisbury was junior Melissa Lewis
(third in the hammer) and freshman K.C. Gail (second
in the shot).
Women’s Track Notes for
the Week (March 30): Goucher’s Natalie Williams
captured first place in the hammer throw at the Battleground Relays,
setting a new school meet and stadium record with a throw of 168’5”.
The only other first place performance for Goucher at the meet came
from Jana White in the long jump with a leap of
15’11”. Catholic’s Laura Kaye
took first in the 400 meter hurdles and Mary McGlynn earned a third-place
finish in the 1,500 meter run and a fifth-place finish in the 800
meter run to highlight Catholic at the Bridgewater Invitational.
Cara Notarfrancesco placed third in the javelin throw.
At the Battleground Relays this weekend, MWC’s Megan
Linn and Carissa Culbreath finished 1-2
in the discus, Katy Dettman won the high jump,
and Jane Thies won the triple jump with a leap
of 34’9.5”. At the Georgia Tech Classic, Salisbury junior
Melissa Lewis set a new school record in the women’s hammer
to lead the Gulls. Lewis recorded a distance of 127’9”
in the hammer as she placed fourth overall. She added a seventh
place finish in the javelin with a throw of 103’6”.
York’s Erin Yesser won the javelin at the
Battleground Relays. Yesser recorded a throw of 121’1”
to earn the first place finish.
Women’s Track Notes for
the Week (March 23): York College finished second at the
Goucher Invitational, and in the process, established three new
school records. The Spartans received top performances from Jackie
Talton (1st in the 100 meter dash & 1st in the 200
meter dash), Sara Maurer (1st in long jump),
Erin Yesser (1st in javelin), Helen Noll (3rd in 100 dash,
3rd in 200 meter dash, 3rd in triple jump), Jen Klaus
(4th in 1500 meters), and Beth Moser (2nd in 5000 meter run). Catholic
sophomore Mary McGlynn won first place in the 3000
meter run to highlight Catholic’s fourth place finish at the
Goucher College Invitational. Freshman Kim Stengle
had a busy day; placing second in the 100 meter hurdles, discus,
and javelin, and fifth in the hammer throw. McGlynn also placed
third in the 1500 meter run. Goucher produced champions in the hammer
throw and pole vault at the Goucher Invitational. Natalie
Williams broke the meet and Gopher Stadium records, plus
she provisionally qualified for the NCAA Division III Championships,
with her winning throw of 154’5” in the hammer throw.
Calynn Offer cleared 8’11.75” to win
the pole vault competition, plus she broke the outdoor school record
in the high jump, where she tied for fourth with a jump of 4’7.75”.
Mary Washington’s Julia Rothlisberger ran
the 1500 in 4:58, Cindy Fraley ran the 5K in 19:24, Megan
Linn threw the discus 111’0”, and Sam
Workman ran the 200 meters in 26.75 seconds.
Women’s Track Notes for
the Week (March 15): Goucher’s Jana White,
Calynn Offer, and Natalie Williams
all captured first-place in a pair of events at the Goucher Warm-Up
meet. White crossed the finish line first in the 100-meter dash,
completing the event in a time of :13.04. She also topped the field
in the long jump with an effort of 15’9”. Offer’s
first-place finishes were in the high jump, where she tied the outdoor
school record with a jump of 4’4”, and in the pole vault
(8’6”). Williams was the meet’s top performer
in the shot put (37’ 3.5”) and hammer throw (137’
5”). Offer was also on Goucher’s victorious 4x100-meter
relay that crossed the finish line in :56.10. At the Washington
& Lee Invitational, Mary Washington senior Jane Thies
was named the Female Field Athlete of the Meet after placing first
in the triple jump (35’1”), second in the high jump
(5’), and fourth in the triple jump (15’ 0.75”).
Other highlights for the women included Megan Linn
winning the discus, with a throw of 119’10”, Amy
Kingsbury winning the pole vault at 9’6”, and
Samantha Workman placing third in both the 100
meters and the 200 meters.
Women’s Track Notes for
the Week (March 8): Salisbury received first place finishes
from Rebecca Lyons (steeplechase, 13:07.4), Melissa
Lewis (javelin, 103’6”), Megan Adams
(800-meters, 2:33.1), Tori Peddicord (400-meters,
1:04.4), and Ruth Hendrick (high hurdles, :16.4
and 400-hurdles, 1:10.9).
