Complete 2003 Capital Athletic Conference Women's Cross Country Championship Results

Women’s Cross Country Notes for the Week: Goucher’s Emily Hunter established a new course record for a women’s 6,000 meter race at John Rudy Park in York by crossing the finish line in a time of 24:41. Her effort represents the seventh fastest time for a 6K in the history of Goucher’s women’s cross country program. Salisbury finished third at the eight-team Juniata Invitational. Sophomore Lauren Bragg topped the SU women with a third place finish as she crossed the line in a time of 20:56. Freshman Kellie McKay was fourth with a time of 21:09 and freshman Ruth Hendrick was eighth, finishing with a time of 21:18. Marymount’s top four runners, Sara Leslie, Andrea Miranda, Beth Nyborg, and Marie Ramos, all had personal best times at Juniata. Leslie finished 12th overall in the competition.

Results for Oct. 25: GOU 26-YCP 31; @ Juniata Invitational (8 Teams): SAL (3rd), MU (6th);

Women’s Cross Country Notes for the Week: Mary Washington’s Joanna Long finished eighth overall, crossing the line at 24:28 at the Mason-Dixon Invitational. Salisbury finished third at the Mason-Dixon Invitational. Lauren Bragg finished seventh with a time of 24:27 while Kellie McKay finished 12th win a time of 24:55. Bragg and McKay both earned All-Mason Dixon honors. Catholic sophomore Rachel Yates took fifth as the Cardinals finished fourth at the Mason-Dixon Championships. Rebecca Freyvogel and Katelyn Crawford garnered top 20 finishes as they placed 16th and 20th respectively. Freshman Jessica Caggiano was York’s top finisher at the Gettysburg Invitational as she placed 45th with a time of 25:45.35. Teammate Erin Hinkle was York’s next finisher as she clocked in with a time of 26:50.65, good for a 73rd place finish. Marymount’s Sara Leslie was the top MU runner for the third meet in a row. She was 65th of 191 runners and finished with a time of 26:28.68 for the 6K race. Gallaudet’s Sandy Sloat continues to be Gallaudet’s top runner as she led the Bison runners at the Gettysburg College Invitational.

Women’s Cross Country Notes for the Week: With the third-fasted time ever (20:51) for a Goucher runner on the home course, Emily Hunter captured seventh place at the Mid-Atlantic Collegiate Classic. The next Goucher runner to cross the finish line following Hunter was Sofia Jasani in 22:22, goodfor 24th place.

Women’s Cross Country Notes for the Week: Mary Washington finished ninth overall at the Dickinson College Long/Short Invitational. Junior Erin Connelly was the top finisher in the 4K race as she placed 14th with a time of 15:45. Freshman Joanna Long was the Eagles’ top finisher in the 6K as she crossed the line in a time of 25:03. The top finisher for York College in the short race at the Dickinson College Invitational was Asia Lee as the freshman finished 126th with a time of 18:05.43. The Spartans’ top finisher in the long race was freshman Jessica Caggiano as she placed 70th, recording a time of 26:03.32. Marymount finished 24th in the long course race at the Dickinson Invitational. Sara Leslie led the Saints for the second week in a row as she placed 79th with a time of 26:12.62. Andrea Miranda was the second Saint to cross the finish line as she placed 92nd, crossing the line in 26:23.56. Salisbury finished fourth at the Maryland State Cross Country Championship meet in Salisbury on Saturday. Kelli McKay was the top Sea Gull finisher as she placed 18th with a time of 23:38. Lauren Bragg placed 20th while Stacy Hopkins was 35th.

Results from Oct. 4: @ Dickinson Invitational: Short Course Race (4K), 36 teams: MWC 8th, YCP 32nd, GOU 33rd, MU 34th; Long Course Race (6K), 36 teams: MWC 17th, YCP 20th, MU 24th, GOU 30th, GAL 36th; Two-Race Scoring (17 teams): MWC 9th, YCP 17th; @ Maryland State Championships: SAL 4th;

Women’s Cross Country Notes for the Week: Mary Washington placed seventh among 14 teams at the George Washington University Invitational, the best among all Division III teams at the meet. Junior Erin Connelly placed 33rd with a time of 20:52. At the same meet, Marymount ran its first varsity race as the Saints finished 13th of 14 teams. Sara Leslie, who also plays lacrosse for the Saints, was the Saints’ top finisher as she placed 76th. Leslie had a time of 22:11.9. Michelle Gouveia was the second Saint to finish as she placed 98th with a time of 23:12.4. Catholic also ran at the GW Invite as sophomore Rachel Yates placed 28th of 160 runners at the event. Goucher’s Emily Hunter followed four McDaniel runners across the finish line at the York Invitational. Hunter’s fifth-place finish helped the Gophers finish third behind McDaniel and York and ahead of Hood and Imaculata in the team scoring. York freshman Jessica Caggiano was the Spartans’ top finisher at the York Invitational as she placed 7th with a time of 21:52. Gallaudet had just three runners compete at the Tidewater Fall Classic with junior Sandy Sloat posting the top Bison finish, placing 57th of 86 runners in the event. Salisbury’s Lauren Bragg topped the Sea Gull contingent at the Tidewater Fall Classic as she finished 25th with a time of 24:24. Teammate Kellie McKay finished 30th as the Sea Gulls finished sixth in the event.

Women’s Cross Country Notes for the Week: Mary Washington’s Erin Connelly finished as MWC’s top runner in her first race of the season, finishing with a time of 20:23. Salisbury’s Lauren Bragg was the top finisher for the women, placing 45th with a time of 20:59. Stacy Hopkins finished 92 with a time of 22:02, while Rebecca Lyons was steps behind her, finishing 93 with a time of 22:04. The Sea Gulls had an eventful day as they were stuck in New York City traffic as the meet time approached. The Sea Gulls hopped off the bus and ran the final two miles to the meet, getting there five minutes before the meet started. Catholic sophomore Rachel Yates won the York College quad meet as she covered the course in a time of 19:57.67. It was her second first-place finish in as many weeks. York College received two top 12 finishers as freshman Jessica Caggiano placed sixth with a time of 21:55.99 at the YCP Quad. She was followed by fellow freshman Erin Hinkle who placed 12th, clocking in with a time of 22:50.53.

Women’s Cross Country Notes for the Week: Catholic sophomore Rachel Yates repeated as the individual champion at the W&L Invitational on Saturday. Mary Washington’s Whitney Gray was MWC's top finisher at the Lebanon Valley Invitational as she placed 17th with a time of 21:08. York freshman Jessica Caggiano was the Spartans’ top finisher at the McDaniel Invitational. Caggiano placed 17th with a time of 22:09. Fellow freshman Erin Hinkle placed 23rd with a time of 22:29.

Results for the Week of Sept 13: @ Washington & Lee Invitational: CUA (2nd); @ Lebanon Valley Invitational: MWC (6th); @ McDaniel Invitational: YCP (3rd);

Women’s Cross Country Notes for the Week: Goucher’s top performers at the Baltimore Metro Meet were junior Emily Hunter, who finished 26th, and senior Sarah Maffei, who placed 39th. Hunter finished with a time of 22:04.50 while Maffei crossed the finish line with a time of 23:21.30. Salisbury’s Lauren Bragg and freshman Kellie McKay registered top ten finishes to help the Salisbury women’s cross country squad forge a tie for second-place in the final team standings at the UMES Lid-Lifter. Bragg placed seventh with a time of 21:02 while McKay placed tenth with a time of 21:18.
