Goon, Tucker, and Thies
Named CAC Athletes of the Week
Ray Moore (Richmond, VA/Douglass Freeman), Lacey Lister
(Denton, MD/North Caroline), Pat Tracy (Baltimore, MD/St. Paul’s),
Jess Goon (Baltimore, MD/Loch Raven), Harrison Tucker
(Cairo, Egypt/Cairo American College), and Jane Thies (Scituate,
MA/Scituate) were named Capital Athletic Conference Athletes of the
Week for their performance during the week of March 8-14, 2004.
Moore, a freshman shortstop from Mary Washington College, led the Eagles to
a 4-1 record for the week to earn the CAC baseball player of the week award.
Moore hit .611 (11-18) for the week with two walks and a hit by pitch. He had
four doubles and a triple and his five hits and three doubles at Randolph-Macon
both tied MWC school single-game records. One stretch during the week, Ray was
9-for-10. He also totaled nine runs scored and eight RBIs. He currently leads
MWC in hitting as he owns a .491 batting average.
Lister, a sophomore pitcher from Salisbury University, led the Sea Gulls to
a 7-1 week to earn the CAC softball player of the week award. Lister began her
week with a complete game, one-hitter in the 3-0 win over Christopher Newport.
She then worked two scoreless innings in the 7-2 win over Wilkes in the opening
game of the Sea Gull Invitational. In the second game of the tournament, Lister
threw a a complete game, three-hit shutout in the Gulls 1-0 win over Rutgers
Camden. She picked up a win on Saturday as she struck out five and pitched a
hitless 2.1 innings in the Gulls 4-2 win over Kings. She closed out the tournament
with a complete game, one-hit shutout in the 2-0 win over Lynchburg. She closed
out the week with her 11th win of the campaign as the Sea Gulls defeated Manhattanville.
For the week, Lister pitched 32 innings, giving up just 12 hits and four earned
runs as she struck out 56. Her record was 5-1 for the week.
Tracy, a junior attack from Goucher College, had a great individual week as
he led the Gophers to a pair of wins to earn the CAC men’s lacrosse player
of the week award. Tracy began his week by scoring more goals than a Goucher
player has in a game in more than 10 years when he erupted for nine goals in
the win over York. He added four goals and two assists against Randolph-Macon.
Tracy now has 21 goals and six assists for 27 points for the 2004 season.
Goon, a senior attacker from Mary Washington College, had an outstanding individual
week to earn the CAC women’s lacrosse player of the week award. Goon led
the Eagles in scoring in both of their games as MWC went 1-1 for the week. She
tallied a pair of goals in the loss to #5 Gettysburg and then set a career-high
with eight points on four goals and four assists in the victory over Randolph-Macon.
Goon is a 2004 preseason All-American as named by Inside Lacrosse.
Tucker, a freshman runner from Goucher College, had an outstanding meet at the
Goucher Warm-Up meet to earn the CAC men’s track and field athlete of
the week. Tucker placed first in both hurdle events, with winning times of :19.20
in the 110-meter hurdles and 1:04.65 in the 400. He also cleared 5’6”
in the high jump to establish a new outdoor school record and place second in
the event.
Thies, a junior jumper from Mary Washington College, led the Eagles to a third
place finish at the Washington & Lee Invitational to earn the CAC women’s
track and field athlete of the week. Thies was named the Female Field Athlete
of the meet as she placed first in the triple jump (35’ 1”), second
in the high jump (5’), and fourth in the triple jump (15’ 0.75”).
