Mills and Benjamin
Named CAC Athletes of the Week

 

Blair Mills (Hebron, MD/Wicomico) and Annetta Benjamin (Lorton, VA/Hayfield) were named Capital Athletic Conference Athletes of the Week for their performance during the week of February 23-29, 2004.
Mills, a senior forward from Catholic University, led the Cardinals to their third CAC tournament title in the last four years to earn the CAC men’s basketball player of the week. Mills began the week with 16 points, seven rebounds, two blocks and two assists in the Cardinals’ win over Salisbury in the CAC quarterfinals. Against Goucher in the CAC semifinals, Mills had 13 points and five rebounds. In the championship game win over Mary Washington, Mills had 17 points, six rebounds, two blocks and was 13-of-14 from the free throw line to help send CUA to its seventh straight NCAA Tournament. For the season, Mills is averaging 12.2 points and 5.3 rebounds per game.
Benjamin, a senior forward from Marymount University, led the Saints to their ninth CAC tournament title to earn the CAC women’s basketball player of the week. For the week, Benjamin averaged 14.7 points, nine rebounds, three assists, one block, and four steals per contest in just 23 minutes per game. She shot 61.3% from the floor and also played outstanding defense during the tournament. Benjamin was also named to the first-team All-District II Verizon Academic All-American this past week. For the season, Benjamin is averaging 11.2 points and 7.9 rebounds per game.
